U.S. Veterans Health Administration Uses Nuance Dragon Medical Solution

Nuance Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN) announced today the U.S. Veterans Health Administration System will implement Dragon Medical 360?Direct, which delivers Nuance’s unparalleled cloud-based medical speech recognition technology. The VA, which cares for more than 8.3 million patients annually, and includes 14,000 physicians across 152 hospitals and 800 community-based outpatient clinics, plans to deploy Dragon Medical 360?Direct across the entire VA health system. This solution will allow clinicians to dictate seamlessly within the VA’s electronic health records (EHR) system, the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS), from the office, in the hospital, or on-the-go.

Timely and accurate clinical documentation is key to delivering high quality patient care. The VA plans to leverage Nuance enterprise-class, cloud-based, front-end speech recognition to improve clinical documentation accuracy, enhance patient care, drive productivity, and reduce costs. As part of Nuance’s new generation of cloud-based solutions, Dragon Medical 360?Direct enables physicians using any Windows device or working in a virtualized environment to have a seamless dictation experience that supports their daily clinical workflows.

Benefits of Dragon Medical in the Cloud

“Our cloud-based Dragon Medical offerings provide an integrated experience across desktop, web, and mobile that allows clinicians to use any intelligent device to dictate into their patients’ EHRs,” explains Joe Petro, senior vice president of Healthcare Research and Development at Nuance. “We live in a world where clinicians must be able to instantly and accurately document care when they want, wherever they want and into whatever computing environment they have. With cloud-based Dragon Medical, their office is wherever they are.”

The adoption of cloud-based medical speech recognition to document care is increasing, mirroring the rapid use of cloud-based services in the consumer space, connecting people to the information they need. Over the last year, Nuance has seen an 89 percent increase in consumers using cloud-based speech services, with more than 10 billion transactions through early January having touched Nuance’s mobile cloud, which powers many of the voice, touch and personal assistant experiences on the world’s best-selling phones, tablets, cars, TVs, and PCs. Additionally, more than 100 million monthly active users engage in a voice or personal assistant experience through the Nuance cloud, and this number is expected to rise.
