Wolters Kluwer Health Enriches Nurses’ Ability to Deliver Better Patient Education
Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information and point-of-care solutions for the healthcare industry, today announced a Lippincott Advisor enhancement that helps nurses improve patient education. Lippincott Advisor, one of the leading online clinical decision-support solutions used by clinicians in hospitals and other healthcare institutions, now provides access to high quality patient-teaching handouts produced by Lexicomp and UpToDate, two of the most respected online content providers in medicine.
This enhancement brings an additional 2,800+ patient handouts together with more than 3,500 existing drug-information handouts. Using the latest evidence-based information, the handouts are designed to reinforce teaching and provide patients, caregivers and family members with easy access to care instructions and the clinical knowledge they need in the hospital and at home.
This integration helps hospitals and health systems give their clinicians even easier access to the Lexicomp and UpToDate patient education leaflets being used today to help improve patient care. Wolters Kluwer Health currently provides the ability to load the handouts directly into the customer’s electronic medical record (EMR). With the addition of the same handouts in Lippincott Advisor, now the clinician can reference the leaflet from anywhere in the care delivery process, whether working directly in the EMR or through the quick answers technology within Advisor.
By obtaining both of these solutions, health systems are providing their clinicians the best of both worlds – access anytime, anywhere while connected to any health information (patient or clinical) that they are reviewing at bedside or prior to delivering patient education.
“This enhancement is going to help improve the way nurses deliver patient education,” said Judith McCann, MSN, RN, Chief Nurse, Professional & Education, Wolters Kluwer Health. “Currently, Lippincott Advisor documents the key points that nurses need to discuss with their patients. With the Lexicomp and UpToDate patient handouts now included in the product, clinicians can now associate the key points of teaching with the actual leaflets being provided to the patient.”
New Discharge Instructions and Personalization
Lippincott Advisor is adding four types of patient handouts: Diseases/Conditions, Treatments & Diagnostic Tests, Discharge Instructions, and Healthy Living. Discharge instructions help patients understand the care they will need to improve their personal level of wellness. In addition, the personalization feature allows clinicians to add patient name, diagnosis, date, clinician name, and customized instructions to the handout.
All handouts are available in both English and Spanish, and are updated regularly with the latest evidence-based information. The company continues to add additional leaflets to the database in each quarterly release.
Lippincott Advisor is a leading clinician-centric, answers-at-the-bedside resource designed for online and mobile point-of-care environments. The product includes more than 10,000 collective entries of critical, evidence-based information spanning diseases, treatments, diagnostic tests, drugs, signs & symptoms, nursing care plans, core measures, hospital-acquired conditions, national guidelines and patient education.
Lippincott Advisor is part of Lippincott Nursing Solutions, a series of evidence-based software applications designed to improve patient outcomes, enhance clinical competency, standardize care and promote clinical excellence.
