Marble Security Delivers Next Generation Messaging Capabilities to Protect the Privacy of Healthcare Patient Information on Mobile Devices

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Feb. 18, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Marble Security today announced that it has extended its Marble Messenger capability, a secure messaging client that enables healthcare organizations to protect information with encryption and passwords to enforce compliance for senders and receivers. This new extension includes a secure guest access app for healthcare professionals outside of the Marble network.

The new guest app allows users whose organizations have not deployed the Marble platform to respond securely to Marble users. Guests receive a Marble Messenger notification and can download the free “lite” version of the client to interact directly with professionals on the Marble network. Although, guests cannot initiate secure messages.

Messages sent through the Marble Messenger platform are encrypted in flight and at rest, so patient information is protected as it traverses the Internet or a mobile network. Additional safety is provided by the auto-destruct feature that deletes the image and text after a designated time limit is reached. Users will also know when each message is delivered and read, and the sender can recall messages from a guest as well.

Physicians, surgeons, nurses, emergency responders and other healthcare providers often use their mobile phones and tablets to send diagnostics and collaborate with other specialists on patient cases. And for good reason—it helps save lives. However, the practice introduces serious compliance risks for electronic protected health information (ePHI).

“Customers often tell us that they can consult with colleagues and other healthcare professionals through secure messaging without violating HIPAA/HITECH regulations while using Marble Messenger,” said Marble Security Founder and CTO David Jevans. “With the constantly expanding use of mobile devices in the workplace, we’re also seeing growing interest in other sectors to encrypt and protect sensitive information that is routinely sent over mobile devices.”

A prime example of the need for secure messaging in other business areas would be a CFO and CEO text messaging prior to an upcoming earnings call. The information discussed could include financial data, confidential acquisition news and more. If one of them were to leave their phone in a cab, a thief would have access to all of this private corporate information, putting the executives and the company at risk. With Marble Messenger, the information would already be secured in the cloud and wiped from the phone automatically.

Marble Messenger is the newest feature of the company’s Marble mobile security platform, a next generation cloud service that combines advanced mobile security management (MSM) functionality with essential mobile app management (MAM) and mobile device management (MDM) capabilities. Marble is defining the emerging mobile security category, MSM, which goes beyond MAM and MDM with advanced features like app scanning, secure browsing and real-time cyberthreat protection.

Enterprises are now faced with the reality that traditional MDM solutions do not protect their mobile programs. At the same time, mobile malware and phishing attacks have more than doubled, increasing the risks to enterprises from BYOD and mobile access. Marble addresses these problems directly with the MSM capabilities in its next generation mobile security platform that includes these elements:

Marble mobile security platform lets administrators, via the cloud, set and enforce risk-based policies, control mobile security through dashboards and run risk analytics and compliance reports.
