HIMSS Analytics and IIA Launch 1st Healthcare Analytics Benchmarking Service
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) Nov. 19, 2013 — The DELTA Powered Analytics Assessment, the first healthcare-industry benchmark designed to measure and score analytical maturity, was officially launched today by HIMSS Analytics and The International Institute for Analytics (IIA).
This benchmarking service was developed by HIMSS Analytics, the research and analytics arm of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and IIA, the leading independent research firm focused exclusively on guiding its clients to leverage the power of analytics. The DELTA Powered Analytics Assessment offers healthcare provider organizations an unbiased evaluation of analytics program maturity and benchmark relative to their peers.
This web-based assessment is the next evolution in benchmarking and certification for HIMSS Analytics, which developed the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM), the industry standard for certifying electronic medical record adoption in hospitals. As healthcare providers rapidly accumulate massive amounts of data and shift to valued-based and accountable care propositions, it has created a need to leverage data to gain valuable clinical and business insights. As a result, healthcare providers must now focus on managing and maturing their analytic capabilities. The DELTA Powered Analytics Assessment provides healthcare organizations with the ability to measure the strength of their analytics program and gives insight into where an organization should focus to advance analytics capabilities and maturity.
“New healthcare delivery models, such as accountable care and patient-centered medical homes, require the use of analytics to better understand patient populations, medication adherence and other types of patient-centered statistics and activities,” said James Gaston, Sr. Director, Clinical & Business Intelligence, at HIMSS Analytics. “The DELTA Powered Analytics Assessment allows healthcare organizations to better understand their analytics capabilities, and to plot a course to derive value from and advance them over time. This allows healthcare organizations to be more competitive and drive improved patient outcomes within the new healthcare world.”
The assessment utilizes the widely published DELTA Model framework described in Analytics at Work by IIA co-founder Thomas H. Davenport and IIA faculty members Robert Morison and Jeanne Harris. The DELTA model measures maturity across five critical analytic competencies: Data, Enterprise approach, Leadership, Targets and Analysts.
“Using this framework, we’ll work with healthcare provider organizations to measure and identify their analytical capabilities,” Davenport said. “This assessment will show where they might need to improve going forward, and what areas to address to make their analytics capabilities better.”
The assessment is administered through an online survey to 25 or more participants from each organization, and takes approximately 15-20 minutes for each participant to complete. All participating organizations will receive a free basic report that includes their overall DELTA score, benchmark comparisons, and comparison of responses from constituencies within the organization. A premium report is also available for a fee, providing detailed analysis of the organization’s analytics program across 33 competencies, guidance on where to focus analytics investments, in-depth analysis of constituent responses and a webinar briefing on the results.
