eClinicalWorks’ Customer Demonstrates Improved Outcomes with Electronic Health Records

eClinicalWorks, a leader in ambulatory healthcare IT solutions, is pleased to congratulate Florida’s Community Health Centers, Inc. on being awarded a Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Community Health Organization Davies Award of Excellence as a federally qualified community health center (FQHC) that has demonstrated significant sustainable improvement of patient outcomes through the utilization of electronic health records and information technology while achieving return on investment. This is the 11th eClinicalWorks’ customer to receive a HIMSS Davies Award of Excellence in the past seven years.

Community Health Centers, Inc. is a non-profit FQHC that provides primary and preventive medical, dental, and pharmaceutical services to insured, uninsured, under-insured, and under-served children and adults within Central Florida. Established in 1972, Community Health Centers, Inc. has built 11 medical and dental centers throughout several counties, serving more than 53,000 each year. In 2009, Community Health Centers, Inc. began utilizing eClinicalWorks EHR as a unified medical and dental solution to help improve the quality of patient care, streamline workflow and generate a return on investment. For this award, Community Health Centers, Inc. brought together a submission committee that included Kim Barkman, Director of Clinical Informatics, Chimira Edwards, Director of Accreditation, Compliance and Performance Improvement, and Lyn Blankenship, Lead EHR System Analyst.

“Community Health Centers, Inc. is committed to providing high-quality, outcome-based healthcare to our patients and to implementing the necessary tools in order to achieve that goal,” said Mark Dickinson Executive VP/CFO and Interim President/CEO for Community Health Centers, Inc. “Working closely with eClinicalWorks, we successfully implemented an EHR that improves quality of care and enables our physicians to deliver the best care possible. Streamlining both the medical and dental aspects of care in addition to adding population health has benefitted both our providers and patients. We are honored to receive this prestigious award.”

According to a recent HIMSS press release, using a comprehensive EHR-enabled quality improvement and patient engagement strategy has “sustained excellent care coordination while maintaining a high level of care delivery that scores well above national benchmarks. CHC’s use of technology to conduct pre-visit planning and drive self-management of chronic conditions has almost doubled the percentage of patients with a diagnosis of hypertension who have a blood pressure under 140/90 within their patient population. CHC further advances continuity of care by linking primary care and dental care within the EHR, which prevents potential risks associated with dental surgery for patients with morbidities. CHC also has developed an innovative change management strategy that reviews patient data to ensure that the organization is constantly evaluating care outcomes and adjusting workflows to insure continuous learning and improvement. As a result of these efforts, CHC has received a Level II Patient Centered Medical Home designation from NCQA.”

“Community Health Centers, Inc. is to be commended for its accomplishments in utilizing technology in its quality improvement initiatives,” said Girish Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. “The wonderful success of the eClinicalWorks implementation demonstrates the real clinical and practical value of our EHR. Community Health Centers, Inc. is yet another example of how healthcare technology works in tandem with medical providers to improve care coordination and deliver the best possible care.”

Community Health Centers, Inc. will be recognized at the 2015 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition, April 12-16 in Chicago, according to HIMSS officials.
