Record Number of Healthcare Professionals Attend CSOHIMSS Fall Conference in Columbus
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — October 2013, the Central and Southern Ohio HIMSS, a chapter of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, engaged the attendees with a highly successful one day conference hosted by The Ohio State University Faculty Club. The annual conference titled “Today’s World of Collaboration and Innovation in Healthcare IT” drew a record crowd of 180 attendees to the campus of The Ohio State University.
The conference attendees were treated to a number of high caliber speakers who are highly respected within their fields. The keynote speaker, Dr. Mrunal Shah, CMIO for OhioHealth, discussed the topic of population health, the approach to health with the intention of improving the health of a given population, in his presentation “What is the buzz around Population Health and how IS is starting to evolve to support?” Other speakers included Phyllis Teater (CIO of the OSU Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC)), Elizabeth Curtis (Administrative Director of Medical Information Management for the OSUWMC), Lisa Reisz (JD, Vorys LLP),Steve Gruetter (Technologist for Expedient), and Nancy Pierce (Director of Clinical Informatics for Mount Carmel Health System), Susan Gallagher (Process Coordinator for Mount Carmel Health System) and Jon DeVries (VP Product Development for Merge Healthcare).
Joyce Miller Evans, president of the CSOHIMSS board, stated that “Equally important to the wealth of information provided by the speakers were the multiple networking opportunities provided to attendees.” During the conference, attendees had great networking opportunities, where they were able to interact with other healthcare IT professionals and visit the sponsor pavilion to enhance their knowledge of the products and services within the healthcare IT domain.
The conference included the presentation of the Jane A. Blank scholarship to both Alissa Schultz and Daniel Morgan. Dr. Albert Lai, CSOHIMSS Scholarship Chair noted “We may have had our best year in terms of getting applications from individuals truly interested in health information management”.
The next event for CSOHIMSS will be the Ohio Healthcare Information Technology Day April 3, 2014 at the Statehouse Atrium in Columbus, Ohio. CSOHIMSS is also in the early planning stages for their annual spring conference that will be in the May 2014 timeframe.
The HIMSS Chapter of Central and Southern Ohio (CSOHIMSS) supports careers in healthcare information systems in Ohio. CSOHIMSS has representation from the provider, consultant, and vendor healthcare industry segments and works to enhance communication and education among its members.
