Moffitt Cancer Center Moves Tampa Data Center Operations to Peak 10
National IT infrastructure and cloud solutions provider Peak 10 Inc. has been selected to host the data center operations of Moffitt Cancer Center. Moffitt is the top-ranked cancer hospital in Florida based on the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals for Cancer Care rankings and the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center based in Florida. The hospital’s IT infrastructure and patient and research data will be housed in Peak 10’s third and newest facility in the Tampa area.
A Peak 10 customer since 2011, Moffitt Cancer Center is experiencing strong growth. Migrating its IT operations to Peak 10 will enable the hospital to streamline its processes and operations, increase redundancy and high availability, lower costs, improve performance and focus its internal resources on its core competency — healthcare.
“Peak10 has proven to be more than just a vendor for Moffitt. They have been a partner in delivering crucial colocation services and support to further our mission of preventing, treating and curing cancer,” says John McFarland, director of architecture and engineering for Moffitt Cancer Center. “When we made the decision to move our primary data center offsite, the opportunity to take advantage of Peak 10’s newly opened facility and its many advanced features sealed the deal for us. The Peak 10 team has always been accommodating and great to work with, so we are very happy to call their new facility the future home of Moffitt’s IT infrastructure.”
“We are excited to have Moffitt Cancer Center move its data center operations to our newest Tampa data center,” says Cheryl Kleiman, vice president and general manager for Peak 10, overseeing Tampa operations. “Our team is dedicated to providing the secure, reliable IT services the hospital requires, the most responsive support team available 24/7/365, and the flexibility to support its current and future growth. By outsourcing its data center operations to Peak 10, the hospital will be able to easily scale its IT resources to accommodate this growth without incurring significant capital expenses.
The new Peak 10 data center off Parkedge Drive in Tampa opened for business in July 2015 and is a one-of-kind data center in Florida. Designed, constructed and operated to meet industry Tier 3 standards, it provides 99+% uptime. The facility’s fuel tanks can cover an 84-hour power outage, and power can run indefinitely with refueling. Multiple fuel vendors are on standby.
Tampa newest data center also boasts a true 2N power distribution design, which means it provides two separate, independent sources of power (A and B). With no interconnections or interdependencies, there are no single points of failure that could impact both sources. At any time, one side can be taken down for maintenance, testing, or because of an unexpected failure. The full facility load remains supported by the other side.
In addition to its Tampa location, Peak 10 operates in nine other cities in the U.S., serving customers around the globe. The fast-growing company, headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., announced earlier this year the opening of its third data center in Raleigh, N.C. To learn more, visit www.peak10.com.
