e-MDs’ Customer Jennifer Brull, MD, Is Only Physician in U.S. Named a Software Advice EHR All-Star in Two Categories
AUSTIN, TX–(Marketwired – Nov 12, 2013) – e-MDs, a leading provider of electronic health records (EHRs) and practice management (PM) solutions, announced today that Jennifer Brull, MD, FAAFP, a solo family physician in Kansas and e-MDs customer since 2007, is the only physician to be recognized in two separate categories in Software Advice’s 2013 EHR All-Stars.
Dr. Brull was honored by EHR resource Software Advice in two categories: for using e-MDs’Solution Series™ Electronic Health Record (EHR) to improve the quality of care for her patients, and for increasing her solo practice’s profitability in the process. Only three doctors from across the U.S. are selected as an EHR All-Star in each category annually.
This is the latest honor for Dr. Brull, who in April 2011 became the first physician in Kansas to attest successfully to Meaningful Use of an EHR and was featured in a Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) national meaningful use campaign. Earlier this year, Dr. Brull was just one of 28 Healthcare IT champions on the local level honored by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), which named her a Health IT Fellow.
“As a resource for research and reviews on EHR software, Software Advice talks every day with doctors considering EHR purchases,” said Melissa McCormack, Managing Editor, Software Advice. “One question we hear often is: How do EHRs provide a return on investment? In other words, how will an EHR make a practice more profitable or enable it to provide better care? Dr. Brull is a prime example of how solo physicians and small practices can improve the quality of care they provide and increase their own practice profitability in the process. By leveraging the e-MDs EHR solution to its full potential in her practice, Dr. Brull and e-MDs demonstrate that the benefits of EHR software certainly make it worth the investment.”
Electronic health records (EHRs) are on the minds of many practitioners today. Whether a practice is already using an EHR and grappling with Meaningful Use requirements, or just considering implementation, it’s likely EHRs rank on its list of concerns.
Dr. Brull, who has 2,000 patient visits a year in her rural family practice in Plainville, Kansas, credits the use of e-MDs to track patient screening with helping her to improve colorectal cancer screening rates from 30 percent to 93 percent. It has also helped her increase daily visits from 20 to 28 patients and mammogram screening from 65 percent to 99 percent.
“The e-MDs EHR allows me to look at all of my patients, not just those who are currently in my exam room, to figure out if anyone is falling through the cracks,” said Dr. Brull. “It has also helped me to improve efficiency and reduce costs, improving my practice’s bottom line. I can now see several extra patients each day, and provide better preventive care and treatment for chronic conditions for my patients.”
In addition to the e-MDs Solution Series™ EHR, Dr. Brull is also using e-MDs’ PM (Practice Management), Patient Portal, laboratory interface and e-prescribing solutions in her practice.
“We are proud that Dr. Brull continues to be recognized for her accomplishments by esteemed organizations such as Software Advice and the ONC,” said Dr. David Winn, the CEO and Chairman of the Board for e-MDs. “As an e-MDs customer, she is an excellent role model for all physicians as someone who uses our EHR to better serve her patients and still be able to operate more efficiently to reduce costs.”
