drchrono Launches First EHR App That Leverages AirDrop to Enable Doctors and Patients to Securely Share Electronic Health Records on Mobile Devices
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA–(Marketwired – Sept. 20, 2013) – drchrono Inc., the creator of a free Electronic Medical Record (EMR) platform on the iPad, iPhone and cloud, today releases its new application for iOS7. This is the first mobile EHR to support Apple’s new iOS7 operating system.
drchrono’s free mobile EHR app allows doctors to connect with patients and run their practice, which includes sharing medical records, electronic prescribing, medical billing, and patient management, all from the iPad. It will now support the iOS7 operating system, which lets physicians share files via iPad or iPhone with their patients via iOS7’s AirDrop at the point of care.
With AirDrop, right when a physician dictates medical information, the patient can see the updates in his iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Rather than send long messages that patients will not view until they leave the office, physicians can transfer information immediately to a patient for viewing on his mobile device.
AirDrop even allows physicians to share information to multiple individuals. Now a physician can easily present information to an entire family waiting for news of a relative. Charts, medical records, prescription information, photos, educational material or how to videos can be made available on any family member’s phone with the touch of a button. drchrono also envisions this as a way to enhance physician-to-physician interaction as well, such as an oncologist and a cardiologist working together to solve the mystery behind one of their patient’s diseases.
In regards to privacy laws, AirDrop includes several features to ensure that only the appropriate parties view the shared information. Users of the iPad or iPhone must put their phones into a detectable mode and can limit which individuals they want to share their information with.
Dr. James Andrew Rieger, MD, a physician with 22 years of experience, states, “With iOS7’s AirDrop, the world of healthcare has just changed. For the first time I can share medical data in real time with a patient at the point of care. Also, I love the new design of the drchrono iOS7 app, it is simple and just works.”
Whether it is a photo, a medical record or text document, patients now have access to all their own medical information instantaneously.
“The days where multiple physicians have to hunch over a single computer screen are gone. The new AirDrop functionality will change the game of healthcare forever, now that doctors can share data with patients faster than ever before,” said Daniel Kivatinos, cofounder of drchrono. “We see a future of physicians in operating rooms all with iPads; imagine the head of the surgery expressing concerns or giving advice to the surgeons via the AirDrop. We are looking to create a future where collaboration between physicians should be as simple as pressing a button.”
