Children’s Mercy Employee Wellness Center Opens Its Doors
Kansas City, Mo. – October 10, 2013 – Children’s Mercy Hospital and Clinics opens a new, 15,000-square-foot, onsite health and wellness center for its more than 6,500 employees and their spouses and domestic partners.
The Children’s Mercy Employee Wellness Center begins seeing patients on Oct. 21. Operated by Cerner, it will be open six days a week, offering primary, preventive and urgent care, laboratory and pharmacy services, and minor medical procedures.
“Children’s Mercy is a leader in employee health. Fewer than 15 percent of employers in the Midwest provide onsite health care,” says Sandra Lawrence, Executive Vice President/Chief Financial Officer at Children’s Mercy. “We are making it convenient and affordable for employees to take care of their health. The Children’s Mercy Employee Wellness Center is another example of why Children’s Mercy is one of the Best Places to Work in Kansas City.”
Everything in the design of the new center is personalized and focused around creating a quality, affordable health care experience, including:
- CMH medical plan participants pay a $10 co-pay for urgent and primary care, including minor medical procedures, and preventive care is provided at no cost
- Lab and pharmacy services
- No paperwork or claims to file
- No wait – employees simply check in to be directed to a care suite, where care centers around them
- Occupational health and wellness services, including onsite health coaching
- Wellness classroom for onsite fitness and education classes
- The center is staffed with full-time physicians, family nurse practitioners, pharmacists and medical technicians
Cerner will own and operate the Children’s Mercy Employee Wellness Center, per a five-year agreement.
“We are very proud to partner with Children’s Mercy in managing the health and wellbeing of their workforce,” said Mike Heckman, vice president, population health services for Cerner. “Our collective community presence has been a positive force for health care and innovation, and this new partnership will enable our teams to expand our ability touch lives in the Kansas City community.”
Cerner is an experienced leader in the provision of onsite health care services. They currently operate more than 30 onsite health centers nationwide.
