Brother and Datalogic to Showcase Advanced PointCare Technology Solutions to Help Improve Patient Safety at HIMSS16
Brother Mobile Solutions, Inc. (BMS) a wholly-owned subsidiary of Brother International Corporation and premier provider of mobile and desktop printing solutions, announces it will join forces with Datalogic, a global leader in Automatic Data Capture and Industrial Automation, at HIMSS16 to present innovations in patient wristband/specimen identification designed to minimize human error and help increase safety and accuracy at the bedside point-of-care.
The two companies will demonstrate innovations in point-of-care barcode printing and scanning at the upcoming HIMSS16 Conference in Las Vegas, February 29 – March 4. A premier event for the healthcare information management industry, HIMSS attracts more than 40,000 healthcare IT professionals, clinicians, executives and vendors from around the world.
Protecting Patients at the Point-of-Care
Product managers from Brother and Datalogic will be on hand to showcase the newest capabilities of two industry-leading brands in healthcare:
• Brother will feature the TrustSense™ TD-2130NHC wristband and specimen label printer
• Datalogic will introduce its new DBT6400 RIDA™ imager/scanner
The products work together seamlessly, enabling caregivers to identify the correct patient and match them to the right medication, specimen sample or procedure to ensure best practices for patient care. The Brother thermal printer generates top-quality PDC patient ID wristbands, as well as labels for medications and other specimens, complete with barcode. The Datalogic pocket-sized, wireless RIDA imager/scanner scans both barcodes, providing an instantaneous read between the patient wristband ID and the label on the drug being administered or the specimen sample to ensure a proper cross-match has been made.
HIMSS attendees can preview the complete solution in action at Brother Booth #12432 and Datalogic Booth #332.
Solutions Supporting Enhanced Patient Safety are in High Demand
Commenting on the urgent need for such a solution, Ravi Panjwani, Vice President of Marketing and Product Management for Brother Mobile Solutions, states: “To truly conquer the persistent and vexing problem of adverse patient outcomes that most hospitals continue to experience, hospitals must dramatically expand their adoption of barcode print and scan technology into every area of the hospital, from the patient’s room, to the lab, to the pharmacy. Compact and versatile, our TD-2130NHC enables on-demand printing of both wristbands and labels from virtually anywhere in a facility, which makes this printer desirable for hospitals, clinicians, and the IT teams supporting them.”
“We are pleased to collaborate with Datalogic to demonstrate how our solutions address IT, connectivity and transportability issues to help improve patient safety and protection,” said Panjwani.
Giulio Berzuini, General Manager and Vice President of the Handheld Business Unit at Datalogic, notes: “Most hospitals are committed to a specific ‘Code of Care’ to prevent errors when administering medications, blood or care to patients at the bedside. Barcode scanners are a critical component because they automatically capture data from the patient, the doctor’s orders or EHR system and the medication source to assure a required match.”
The Datalogic DBT6400 RIDA imager/scanner is a pocket-sized wireless Bluetooth® scanner that is Disinfectant Ready and has an Anti-Microbial coating. This light weight device, with Datalogic’s patented ‘Green Spot’ technology for good read feedback easily connects with tablets, smart phones, laptops and computers – with an omni-directional camera for superior data capture on all 1D/2D codes.
