Practice Fusion Partners with Healthagen’s Practice iQ to Help Physician Groups Perform as ACOs

SAN FRANCISCO, January 13, 2014 — Practice Fusion, the country’s largest physician-patient community, today announced an agreement with Practice iQ to help independent primary care doctors adopt electronic health record (EHR) technology, deploy effective care management programs, and improve their population health capabilities by integrating sophisticated data analytics within the EHR workflow. As medical organizations throughout the country prepare for new models of care, like Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) and Patient-Centered Medical Homes (PCMHs), this agreement will create a truly advanced technology solution that can help doctors dramatically improve their effectiveness in managing both the cost and quality of patient care.

ACOs and PCMHs can significantly improve both the quality and cost effectiveness of health care across the U.S.  However, while the shift to these more innovative care models supports improved patient outcomes, they also require doctors to make changes in their workflow and employ technology that provides more complete and actionable information regarding their patient populations. Combining the Practice Fusion EHR and the health care technology from Practice iQ helps to ensure doctors receive the clinical information they need at the time they need it most within their current workflow.

“As we move to an analytic-based model of health care in the United States, it’s crucial to support the providers on the front line of medicine,” said Ryan Howard, CEO and founder of Practice Fusion. “With one in three doctors in the Practice Fusion community participating in at least one value-based care initiative, this agreement will combine our best-in-class EHR with Practice iQ’s leading suite of population health technology and services.”

Practice iQ, a Healthagen business within Aetna, offers a suite of payer-neutral care management, integrated health care technology and business services to help independent physician groups operate and succeed with a range of value-based reimbursement models.  Included among the resources these groups need to transition from volume to value are population health management tools that allow doctors to monitor the health of their whole patient population and improve care quality. With Practice Fusion’s user-friendly, free web-based EHR, doctors migrating to a value-based care model have a simple, digital platform with built-in connectivity to the tools powering their ACO or PCMH.

“Practice iQ understands the pressures faced by independent physicians as the health care environment shifts from volume-based to value-based care,” said Brian Parker, president of Practice iQ. “Adapting to this new model can seem overwhelming, but Practice iQ is dedicated to helping doctors navigate through the changes and emerge successful. Working with Practice Fusion, we can deliver care coordination information to doctors within their current EHR workflow to streamline the process and improve their success.”
