PointClickCare Announces Canadian Availability of Secure Conversations

PointClickCare, the leading cloud-based software platform for the senior care market, announced today the availability of PointClickCare Secure Conversations to the Canadian market.  This text-messaging application enables healthcare professionals to securely communicate personal health information (PHI) using their smartphones and PointClickCare’s electronic health record (EHR) platform.  The new offering will play a significant role in helping Canadian long-term care providers make timely decisions in a secure and compliant manner, eliminating the risks associated with unsecure text messaging practices. Further, adoption of PointClickCare Secure Conversations can help lower hospital re-admissions, reduce practitioner consult times and eliminate the phone tag that often occurs when care teams need to connect urgently with practitioners.

A study conducted by The Canadian Medical Association in July 2011 notes that the use of mobile devices can improve communication and benefit healthcare professionals seeking to access information.  To help meet this need, PointClickCare Secure Conversations, which was designed as an encrypted mobile-messaging and web application, helps practitioners and clinicians securely communicate time-sensitive messages regarding laboratory results, patient procedures, medical histories, practitioner on-call notifications, resident-related questions and other important personal health information from mobile devices.

“Advances in mobile communications make it very appealing to practitioners and providers to communicate through their mobile devices. It’s convenient, simple, and often much quicker than answering a phone call,” said Dave Wessinger, chief technology officer, PointClickCare. “However, unsecure messaging platforms increase the risk of privacy breaches, which is why we’ve introduced PointClickCare Secure Conversations to the Canadian market. With PointClickCare Secure Conversations, practitioners and providers can share patient information quickly and in a manner that is compliant with provincial laws, ensuring better response time and accurate decision-making.”

Integrated with TigerText, the leader in secure, real-time messaging for the healthcare enterprise, Secure Conversations uses a safe and encrypted OTT (over-the-top) connection to exchange information between smartphones and the cloud-based PointClickCare EHR. “The influx of mobile technologies is changing the healthcare game,” says Mike Vitale, SVP of Channel Sales, TigerText. “Secure text messaging is becoming a frequent means of communication between care providers, and healthcare organizations are quickly seeing the benefits of adopting new technologies that are collaborative, immediate, and secure. Customers are not only reducing email and phone tag by up to 80 percent but are also seeing faster response times as a result of using Secure Conversations.”
