CureMD Starts Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances

In our effort to curtail the epidemic of prescription drug abuse, CureMD is undertaking another initiative with online prescribing and tracking of powerful and potentially addictive drugs. The initiative is Electronic Prescribing for Controlled Substances (EPCS), a DEA rule allowing pharmacies and care providers to handle prescriptions for Schedule II-V controlled substances entirely online.

CureMD CEO Bilal Hashmat said, “About 6.5 million Americans used prescription drugs for non-medical purposes last year. In 2011 alone, prescription drugs accounted for more than half of about 41,000 deaths from unintentional drug overdoses. Making prescriptions for these drugs electronic provides unprecedented advantages to help deter drug abuse and fraud”.

CureMD is leveraging its depth of experience in e-Prescribing to support the industry’s transition to a streamlined process for EPCS. CureMD enables and optimizes the EPCS process for prescribers while assuring quality, security and safety across our network.
