American HealthTech Launches Comprehensive ICD-10 Educational Resource And Support Services

JACKSON, Miss., Jan. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — American HealthTech (www.healthtech.net), a Jackson, Mississippi-based leader in LTPAC EHR software, is among the first to announce the launch of comprehensive ICD-10 educational and support resources available to its customer base via the company’s MyHealthTech portal, which comprises over 10,000 provider members in this online post-acute healthcare community.

The International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10) code set will replace ICD-9-CM codes that have been used in the long-term care sector for nearly 40 years to report medical diagnoses and inpatient procedures through Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) standard transactions. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has set October 1, 2014 as the effective date for ICD-10 transition, which applies to all HIPAA-compliant healthcare provider reports, including MDS 3.0.

According to Teresa Chase, president of American HealthTech, “To be successful in this transition, providers should be preparing today for the fall implementation of ICD-10 codes to ensure they are fully compliant. At American HealthTech, we’ve taken the lead by partnering with ICD-10 experts to ensure we have the best-in-class resources needed to educate our customer base now so we can help ensure our provider organizations have an effective plan ready to go.”

Among the resources American HealthTech is providing include a ICD-10 training schedule, webinar series, monthly e-newsletter, spotlight website and personal support services, such as scheduled meetings with its customers to discuss and help manage the undertaking of ICD-10.

“At minimum, the actions providers should be taking now include informing their teams, planning for training and reviewing and preparing their resident records to begin the transition process,” said Edie Deane, director of education and communication at American HealthTech. “Our ICD-10 team of education and support experts, together with ICD-10 industry partners, is guiding our customers through the ICD-10 journey, and I can’t overemphasize the importance of this.”
